Regardless of what anyone says on here the fact is that as a PGY-1 general surgeon you will and should be doing a lot of data gathering and assessment and planning. Surgeons don’t wake up in the morning and say “wonder who I can cut today”. It’s planned weeks or months in advance.I believe that General Surgery is a dead specialty due to the long hours, relatively little pay, impact on lifestyle and increasing levels of sub-specialty.
