1981 Chevrolet El Camino. Oct 21, 2020. #1. I recently bought a 1981 El Camino with a bunch of cool stuff done. The most interesting is the 90's era VORTEC heads on a "3970010" 70's era block. (I think) I am attaching the casting number / Block Stamp and date code from the block. The front pad has been machined and there are no other numbers visible on this block as it is still in the vehicle. The numbers are definitely 3870010. One other note, the damper is BIG and the heads are "186". As stated it can be any 4.00" bore motor of the 3 possible. More than likely its a 350 that someone has changed the timing cover on, or maybe a car engine.
