Nitride vs phosphate barrel

Chrome will be more slick, but its just a plating. On the other hand, nitride is a treatment that goes a bit deeper than crome does and is also pretty slick. The downside is that chrome is normally better for heat, but that is more of a concern for the barrel than BCG. Really, between the two for a BCG its just a coin toss..

Nitride, Melonite and phosphate are all surface treatments - not coatings. If it says the barrel is nitride finished, it means the barrel is finished with a nitride treatment - and all that entails. If it is finished in phosphate, it is finished with a phosphate treatment of the barrel.Abstract. With the synthesis of pure, stoichiometric, and crystalline phosphorus nitride P 3 N 5 an essential for the systematic investigation of higher phosphorus nitrides has become available. By solid state reaction of P 3 N 5 with Li 3 N and Ca 3 N 2, respectively, the following ternary compounds have been synthesized and …

Cryogenic barrel treatment utilizes liquid nitrogen to bring the temperature of the gun barrel down to -300°F. The gun barrel is kept at this level for 24 hours to relieve residual stresses created during manufacturing. Cryogenic barrel treatment is a one-time, permanent process. The improvement lasts the entire life of the gun or rifle.Everything I have read about the ak-74 is that all the barrels are 4150 CMV Nitride inside and out. I haven’t seen one of these PSA ak-74’s in person, but all the reviews I’ve seen and read from people owning them and reviewing them here on the PSA forums/Reddit seems like everyone has gotten them with the inside and outside finish …Ballistic Advantage Modern Series 20" .308 Win HBAR Contour 1:10 Nitride AR-308 Barrel - Rifle - 5/8x24. One of nitrides positive attributes is that it is very slick and corrosion resistant. Old phosphate barrels can be a little slicker and shiny just from wear or exposure to lubricants.

Jan 29, 2022 · Stainless steel gives better accuracy but at the cost of lower overall barrel life. That being said the average shooter doesn’t shoot enough or accurately enough to benefit from stainless steel. Nitride from a production standpoint is also easier to make and generally translates to cheaper barrels/uppers but exceptions do exist. 2 Likes.AR barrel steel is the base metal that the finish and coating goes over. As the foundation, it is important up to a point. There are four main steels used to create AR-15 barrels, the last of which could broadly be called “stainless steel.”. As it happens, several types of stainless steel are commonly used in barrel-making, which we’ll ...Nitride plasticating barrels are manufactured typically from AISI 4140 HT or similar steels with elements to enhance nitride depth. The barrel is treated using either a gas-nitride or ion-nitride process. Gas-nitride is the more common method. It is less expensive than the ion process. The typical gas-nitride barrel bore has a shallow case hard ...Jan 1, 2021 · Nitride is also much better than phosphate for the BCG. Phosphate is just too rough. Nitride has a very smooth almost polished finish that is much easier to clean and slides in the upper much easier. how ever fn is doing there mil spec is how i,d do it personally. there engineers are alot smarter than me.Camera I use http://amzn.to/2l6TfzjLens I use http://amzn.to/2jQQ0apWelcome to my video! Nitride is better than a plain phosphate barrel. A high quality chrome lined barrel is great too but I still prefer nitride. Generally better bang for the buck. In an effort to increase barrel life to +15,000 rounds various materials and manufacture methods were investigated. A foreign manufacture claimed good results with "GKH" steel and cold rotary forging.Mar 17, 2021 · Phosphated barrel vs. Nitride. Distinct from an earlier thread on phosphating itself, I am thinking of a phosphate SPARE for my P226 WG. I don't think I'll wear out the original, but would like a spare. Chrome lined barrels handle heat better than CMV, SS or Nitride/Melonite/QPQ CMV/SS barrels. The chrome is applied over a rifled bore so there can a variation of thickness of the chrome. A little harder to hold tolerance when applying chrome to a rifled bore which can affect the accuracy of the barrel. Chrome Lined barrels are preferred in full ...SheepDog. Feb 21, 2017. #6. Melonite is a form of nitriding. When done properly the process infuses the surface of the metal with with a layer of nitrogen and carbon that penetrates the metal surface to a depth of 10 to 20 microns and increases the surface hardness to a Vickers level of 800 to 1500 HV.Compare different finishes for AR-15 bolt carrier groups (BCGs) such as chrome, phosphate, nitride, nickel boron and more. Learn the advantages and disadvantages of each finish and see product recommendations.

Most barrels' rifling is formed by cold-hammer forging or by button rifling. 4140, 4150, CMV, and 416R stainless are the four most common barrel steels. Any barrel made of 4150 or CMV is considered mil-spec per MIL …Although phosphate holds lubricant better than nitride, I think I like the nitride more. The thing with an ar 15 BCG is that the contact surfaces are actually pretty small, the whole carrier isnt being drug through the upper, and phosphate isnt a very hard wearing finish.
