The Japanese had just attacked Pearl Harbor two and a half months earlier and tensions were high for folks living on the coast. Meanwhile, a 365 foot long Japanese I-17 sub came to a stop off of the Ellwood coast.The Timbers Restaurant, near Highway 101 at Winchester Canyon Road in Goleta, was built with wood from a WWII Japanese attack on the Ellwood Pier.
